Let’s face it, social media contributes a great deal to your life as an artist. being gifted is good, making great music is awesome, truth is it doesnt end there .

There is still so much to do to take your career to the next level. Work on growing your fanbase, engage with your audience, keep them abreast on your progress. They are like a part of your team too yu know!

It it’s essential that you keep everything up to date and put out content that is truly engaging. The battle is not just to get more followers, it’s about gaining true fans who will support your journey and stick with you as you evolve.

With social media, you have access to millions of people looking for the next big thing. To be that next big thing, you have to at least let them know you exist.

Don’t just work hard, work smart!

Getting endorsement deals would mean some form of recognition. That is why we celebrate the endorsement deals between daphne and yoomee

What it means “To Endorse

To endorse means to declare one’s public approval or support of something… More often than not stars or public figures are chosen to endorse products in order to get people to consume them.

How these individuals are selected I can’t tell with exactitude but what I know is you need to be famous, of good behavior, have plenty fans, accomplishments, influence, dope personality and a person of the people, someone they love and relate to.

Daphne being brand ambassador of YooMee makes me so proud…she deserves it, has been working hard and smart! This should be an encouragement to us all…

UBA endorses Wiz Kid

Anything worth doing is worth doing well…Someone is always watching! I’ve read a couple of comments from angry individuals who are mad at UBA for not picking a Cameroonian superstar to endorse them…

UBA choose to endorse Wiz Kid instead! Guys can we chill for a minute…it’s a big deal I must say but well I’m assuming their marketing department must’ve thought this through…

They probably looked around and didn’t see anyone deserving …or they wanted something all Cameroonian stars no man no getam so them go borrow for neighbor…or they’ve done analyses and realized we rarely support our own or appreciate it!…

Well whatever the reason na their banga and oyehhh any man continue d clap for e juju…we are good and have had other deals before so make this one no make we ya bad .

We are getting bigger and better, meaning more endorsement deals in future…

My Two Cents

My worry is I’ve noticed that we sometimes have a very negative vibe to anything…sometimes something goes wrong or someone makes a mistake and we r on the Front line w laying blames and condemning!

Like a mother who takes sides with the neighbors to humiliate her own child! All man already know we…mendem don used to say blassin must dey. Weda good or bad we always have something negative to say especially when it concerns US!

Grand Manu dies and under the comment section of a post the most negative comments comot camair! We dey every day say support ya own, support ya own! Yet we sabotage and try to bring each other down on a regular.

People d hang now behind objective criticism d sample others. So much negative energy Massa! So while u d point Oda man 1 finger, remember say 4 d point you!

Let’s be real, let’s be supportive, let’s love each other… GENUINELY! And when you say support your own, mean it, like really mean it!!! Stop the hypocrisy and crowd following!

Don’t follow the trend like a sheep…think hard before you speak and stay true to urself! When we start loving and supporting our own…a lot of things will fall in place!

Do you now understand why we celebrate the endorsement deals between daphne and yoomee? Like Wasse tok..” if Buea fine then we fine too” .

Celebrate ya brothers win na! U won’t die!

Davido Signs Mr May D!

Singer Davido has added Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D to the list of artists signed to his record label DMW, congratulations Mr May D!

May D has managed to remain relevant in the music industry despite being quite invisible, and joining Davido’s label looks like a move in the right direction. He is certainly getting his groove back. I smell success people!

He took to social media to make the announcement by writing,
“My New Family, I’m So Excited! PROBLEM #DMW #30BG #CONFAMENT 🚨🚨🚨 @davidoofficial 🙏🏿”
This right here people is how we grow! by lifting each other !

Good morning miluvs… after watching El Classic 2 days ago I was reminded of this thing that has been on my mind for a while… there’s this word we often use but I don’t think we really know what it means.

FAN!!! According to Merriam Webster “a fan is a very enthusiastic supporter or admirer”. The word itself came about as a shortened form of the word fanatic meaning

“marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense devotion.

Fanatic in turn comes from the Latin word fanaticus which was a nice way of saying someone was a bit crazy because they were possesed or inspired by a god or deity.

Truth is when we like or admire something we start calling ourselves fans. But that does not make you a fan at all. If you read for up you go see words like “excessive enthusiasm” way e mean say you like something go jump! For that level way nor..hmm!

C being a fan no fez hard! It’s as simple as pointing someone in the right direction to say oh check out that song, podcast or article, it is amazing!!Or attending every show/ match even if you have to sleep at work the next morning.

Buying a ticket for an outrageous sum of money just to be there live!. Being a fan is part of a relationship. There’s a meaningful connection and reciprocation of support that makes you feel like you are part of something special.

You belong to a positive cycle where your enthusiasm helps the thing you love to continue!..day in day out! winning or loosing that love don’t change
Wuna use to see as some player d jump enter field ele for go touch Messi nor…waaala! Or when them win Barca and we still put look forward to the next game with excitement cuz this love is forever…

So, go out of your way,be positive, be excited, a Lil crazy even possessed lol when you support that which you are a fan of!
Don’t focus on the price tag, time, sacrifice. These are all part of ride! You have all it takes…go out there and be a fan! A true fan!!

Hello beautiful people. Azeeeeh wuna cam small make we check sense so. Record Labels .Yup that’s what’s on my mind but before I proceed ,how about defining what it really is so we can better understand this post.

What!!! Me sef no like reading ,but its good we know what we are getting ourselves into ,so we don’t end up disappointed ,in a mess or worse than we were at the beginning of our career.

What are Record Labels?

Record labels are companies that market recorded music and corresponding videos. They engage in a wide range of functions in the music industry, including new artist recruitment and development (known as A&R, which stands for artist and repertoire), music publishing, and copyright enforcement.

Ok! now that we have the aforementioned out of the way, let’s talk. I`ve seen talent die because a record label takes an artist, revamps him, changes his style completely, doesn’t even push through with the initial agreement.

And at some point when the artist feels stagnant and decides to leave he is charged with breach of contract ( which is correct tho) and asked to pay huge sums of money.

Why would you sign someone because you think they are original, gifted , a breath of fresh air, the next big thing and try to turn them to be like everyone else?? If it’s for commercial reasons , abeg yarn dem before time..make dem know say they are about to loose that one thing that makes them stand out!!it just makes no sense massa!!!

I cant tell exactly what is stipulated in these contracts , but anything put in writing by a lawyer, signed by both parties and backed by the law, and should be respected. If u think u can’t meet up ..separate amicably no be matter!!

Role Of the Artist

In another light, the artist gets to work harder when signed. You have to work twice as hard given that your record Label takes care of everything financially, mentally and physically so that you worry only about producing good music.

Being signed doesn’t make u a winner just yet …your hard work does!! Be Pro active, don’t dissapoint yourself and your fans by strutting around like a peacock, feeling u Don make am… MA man go put in the work….

I don tire for see talent go to waste. Person go be signed to record label but no song released for a whole year. When e even make the song, them no d push e song, no social media publicity ,no tours, nothing!

But make some shaking comot ,you go hear budget ay dem go ask them! Saaah! Cam hear ele bilang for front Camera time for signing, u go feel say na municipal elections campaign!! …repe I say u go wash hand!

If we say we want the music industry to grow let each and every one of us play his role diligently. Lets do what we are supposed to. Lets help each other grow ,together we can be bigger ,better, stronger and undefeatable. Theres enough room for everyone at the top. Cmon people we can do this! #stay true

V music entertainment is an upcoming Music label based in the south West Region of Cameroon (kumba).V Music is currently made up of with three main proffesional artists as follow 👉👉 Jb Volta, Tracy B and Sboy prido.

V Music, thou its still newly established, they got for the label their main producers and video directors but yet still flexible to work with extended producers and Directors when need arise.

In an interview with the Boss/CEO of V Music (Jb Volta classic ) , he made us to understand that they have been working on some amazing outstanding projects for which they will start showcasing in early May with couple of videos.

V MUSIC calls on the population of Cameroon and the world at large to keep anticipating for there’s enough good food to consume.

While waiting, keep following their frontline artist and CEO Jb Volta who already has a lot of products in the market and in all platforms.

For the sake of clarification and argument, I will offer my explanation and industry definition of what commercial music is; based on having spent time listening to recordings and also as a music lover.

They are songs that have the following:

1.) A strong hook/memorable chorus.

If no one knows what your song is called, they can’t request it when they hear it on the radio. More importantly, they can’t go to sound transfer people to telecharge it or track it down on the Internet to illegally download a copy of it.

2.) Good melody.

Commercial music is characterized by good melodies (i.e. verses, choruses, and sometimes bridges that get stuck in your head and make you want to sing-along). What can the top selling urban acts of the past years (Stanley Enow, Jovi, Mr Leo, Magasco and many more) attribute their success to? Good melodies (not cool beats) that increase the commercial value of their music.

3) Appealing lyrics.

The lyrics don’t have to be too deep; people just have to be able to relate to them. If you have a way of saying common things in an uncommon way, your lyrics will have an dominion over a songwriter whose song is about the same topic. Write about what’s closest to your heart for credibility and sincerity, and others will be able to relate to your songs – especially if it’s on a subject matter that they know or will experience.

4.) Keep it short.

Keep the length of your songs down to a maximum of four minutes yes I said it shouldn’t go above four minutes.
Jazz and World Music are exceptions. A song that is well written makes people want to hear it again, and again, and again. The longer the song, the less likely that will happen. You Don’t believe me? Check the length of your favorite songs.

5.) Well-Performed.

Most outstanding vocalists are often surprised by how average singers do this.
The fact is that there are more appealing songs performed by average singers than great vocalists. A good song that is well-performed gives it an edge, but if the song is lacking, all of the yelling and vocal acrobatics that singers tend to use to compensate for it, will not make it a better song…

Though it may help the singer to attract better songwriters to work with. Average singers knows they can’t sing too well so they spend their time. making their songs more appealing with style and captivating words while great vocalists rely their strengths on their vocals.

Now that you know the rules of
commercial music success.

A lot has been going on lately about organizers asking money from artists before they could perform and showcase their arts.

I will like to use the case study below to make an assessment.

1st) An Established artist

An established artist in my context is some one with a huge fan base, some one who can cause people to turn up for events because of his/her name or influence.
If you are in this category then the even organizer will be counting on you for a successfull event.

Hence, the purpose of the publicity will be to inform the people that their favourite artist will be headlining the show. Now this is where the payment comes.
How can they measure the artists pay package ??Based on the amount of people the artist can pull?Probably!

If it is estimated that the artist can pull 1000people and sell out tickets for 1k each then that is 1m,the organizer will check his expenditure and from there he will know how to pay the artist.

2nd) Performer/Entertainer

There are artists who are really good at performing on stage but they dont have a single fan, artists who can light up any crowd at anytime. When budgeting for the front line artist, the organizer will allocate budget for such a person because he/she is usefull at one point but remember that without a ready made crowd the artist will be of no use since he can’t pull any person.

3rd) Your Regular Artist

No fan base, no performance energy, nobody knows you, nobody knows your song. Now when you see anyone complaining about organizers asking them for money, just know that the person falls under this category.

Hence the person is suppose to pay coz you are actually there to promote your self. Because even if the pull the crowd for this artist he won’t still make use of it. I think artists should know their worth,Know where you are coming from and where you are going to.

You can be popular in kumba but in buea nobody knows you, so do not expect same hospitality in both towns Coz in kumba you are a star while in Buea you are a fan.

Events are set out base on the influence of the artist/artists on board. The turn up is powered and influence by the artists on board. Publicity is just to inform the. people that their favourite artist/artists will be on board. Publicity is not to convince the people but its to inform them.

If otherwise you would have seen anybody or everybody frontlining a concert at paposy ..But they can’t, not because they lack the capital to set up a mega concert with huge publicity… Nooooo Its influence. They are not influencial enough.

Think Bout it!

You will bear with me that there are a lot of event’s whose publicity got to you but you never turn up because you doubted the artists. So I think artists should know exactly “why” they should be paid for a show, they should know “where” and “when”.

Do not follow the crowd
Know your worth
Rate your growth

I saw a post challenging upcoming artists to sell out just 100tickets for 1k each but no artist went for it though there are artists who can do it. yet there are others who cant influence even a single person.

Its a step by step process

Before you complain you should know your stand

My advice is: Be a crowd pulling artist
That will help you a lot

We have seen alot of cases were artists spends a lot of money in producing their music videos and then ended up not having any money left for their promo or further productions.

We have also heard a lot of complain from artists about the high prices tagged on video production by big directors. But I personally think the artists are the problem here.

I mean we’ve got a lot of video production companies out here with outstanding results at affordable prices. You must not work with the big names to have an outstanding result….

Noooo We have more than enough standard companies like Talanga Motion Pictures who can deliver to us any kind of image at anytime at a very moderate price.

1)Branding – Images and Names

As an artist or musician, I’m sure you have profiles across multiple social networks. You probably have a Twitter, A Facebook fan page, account and a handful of others where you have advertised your music in hopes of being noticed.

The first form of representation as a musician online, before someone even gets to the play button, will be your images. Be sure the images on your profiles are up to date and of good quality.

If you are just starting out and unable to provide a high-quality photo of yourself, a great alternative is to add a high-quality graphic or cover photo that fits your image as a musician.

No one will need to know that you haven’t had your photo shoot yet! Also, as a musician, you are now a brand. You are a business, and your product is your music. Be sure that all your profiles share a common theme and most importantly, a common name to represent you.

You wouldn’t want to confuse potential fans by having your SoundCloud introduce you as one name, and your ReverbNation profile referring to you as something else entirely.

2)Statistics – Existing Numbers and Social Proof

Speaking of being a brand, businesses of all types benefit from having social proof. What’s the real meaning of social proof? Let’s say you’ve opened up a barbershop at your closest outlet mall.

You’re new, and you need ways to entice people into walking into your store. You decided to bring a few family members along for moral support on your opening day.

Another barbershop owner has also opened his business right across from yours. Unfortunately, he didn’t bring anyone to his store opening. Potential clients walk by the two shops and take a moment to decide.

Which will they choose? More than likely, they will choose your shop, because more people are already in it. This is how social proof works. The same can be applied to the thousands upon thousands of emerging artists on the internet.

Everyone is new and unsigned! What music will the people browsing through indie artists choose to take a chance on? The ones that stand out and already have a crowd.

Social proofing online has become a bit taboo, but don’t you wonder why you hear about thousands of companies and celebrities taking advantages of services that boost their numbers? It’s because social proofing works when done right.

You wouldn’t want to buy from a company that only has 7 followers on Twitter, would you?

3)New Posts – Engagement and Consistency

When it comes to social media for musicians, you need to consistently put out new material and updates. Visiting an artist’s page and seeing that they haven’t had any new material in years is a major letdown.

A lot of times, musicians have new material, but neglect to add it to their social media pages. Even if you are simply uploading a 30-second cover or freestyle, you need to be giving your fans something new multiple times a year.

Interviews, upcoming performance dates, lyric videos, periscope live check-ins, and recent reviews are great ways to add new content to your pages without even needing to upload new material.

Also, as an unsigned artist, it’s critical to engage with your listeners and fans. You aren’t as big as Stanley Enow or Jovi yet! You should personally send a thank you message to anyone who comments or shares your music online.

The more personal and genuine your response is, the better! Indie artists who engage with their listeners and fans have a stronger presence, stronger support system, and overall stronger brand.

4)About Me Section – Clarity and Enticement

After viewing your image and name, the person visiting your profile will most likely glance at your ‘About me’ or ‘Bio’ section. What could you say in a couple of sentences that will make the most out of your About Me section?

Well, the first thing you don’t want to do is leave that section empty or with one or two words. The first thing you will need to is clearly state who you are and what you do.

In the music world, it’s also a good idea to emphasize your genre so that you can stand out to those who regularly listen to your genre the most. Be clear about what the visitor should expect when hitting play on your music or videos.

Secondly, again: there are thousands upon thousands of music makers on the internet, looking for the spotlight. After you have clearly and briefly stated what you do, think of a brief and enticing way to state what your music can do for the listener.

A lot more people in the music industry need to be thinking like a salesperson! Don’t hesitate to tell a potential fan how your music will make them feel. People are tired of hearing about what your latest song is, how you can help them get more listeners, and how they should buy your music.

The real thing any consumer wants to know is, ‘How will you impress me?!” The key to dominating social media for musicians is to show what your music can do for the world!.

Your music is your company.
Take it seriously and treat it professionally.
